Vat Return Overdue

Do you get presented with the message “Your Vat Return is overdue” when opening Business Central?

Everyone in the UK knows the need to run the Get Vat Return Periods to create the next period to submit a Vat Return for, it’s part of HMRC MTD in Business Central.

However, one thing normally overlooked is updating historic returns. Vat returns stay at a status of Open, until HMRC communicate back, running the Receive Submitted VAT Returns will update the Vat Return Info, but not the Vat Return status

To fix this, when you run the Get Vat Return Periods, the start date should be the Start Date of the first Open Vat return

This will communicate back to HMRC and set the return as Closed
